Green Lines on Your Screen: What Causes Them and Can You Fix It?
A thin green line is usually caused by the display panel itself or the cable that connects it, though a driver problem is possible. Check an external monitor: if the line isn't there, the panel or its cable is the likely cause, and it usually means replacing the panel.
Check it now with the green screen test
Fixes to try (easiest first)
- Check with an external monitor
If the green line shows on the external monitor too, the panel probably isn't the problem. [1]
- Update the graphics driver and BIOS, then restart
Corrupted graphics drivers can cause lines on the screen. [2]
- Run the built-in LCD test
On Dell laptops: hold D and press power. If the line shows on the solid colors, the LCD may be faulty. [2]
- Monitors: reseat or replace the cable
Make sure the cable is firmly in at both ends with no bent pins, then try a known-good cable. [3]
